Age UK Sutton is working with the local Council as part of the Sutton Plan to help achieve an ‘age-friendly’ status from the World Health Organisation.
In order for Sutton to reach this status, Age UK Sutton are collecting thoughts and views from local older people on how age friendly they feel where they currently live is and what could be done to improve it.
To do so, they are hosting a series of events where they will talk to people over the age of 50 who work and live in Sutton. At the end of January, Age UK Sutton will host two events followed by further events throughout February and March, as well as one to one telephone conversations.
Each of the events focuses on a theme, inviting anyone over 50 to express interest in attending one or more events. Places are limited but they intend to work hard to enable all those who wish to take part can have the opportunity to do so.
Events in January and February:
The first event took place on Monday 25th January, 2:00 pm-3:30 pm on Healthy Living.
- Wednesday 27th January, 10:00 am-11:30 am: Feeling Connected in the Community
- Monday 1st February, 10:00 am-11:30 am: Health and Care Provision
- Tuesday 2nd February, 10:30 am-12:00 pm: Volunteering and Employment Opportunities
Due to Covid restrictions, Age UK Sutton are currently unable to run live events, so are hosting events via Zoom video call. They are aware that some older people are not able to access the internet, or do not have a webcam, so there will be support for people to access the events via tablet loans (no internet connection needed), and the option of a one-to-one telephone interview.
Age UK Sutton would like to say thank you for your ongoing support with their Mission to make Sutton a more age-friendly place.
