The Borough of Hillingdon is spoilt for choice when it comes to historical hotspots, green parkland and beautiful waterways. And what better way to explore Uxbridge than with a walk to clear the mind. Check out our 6 favourite walking spots for a lunchtime walk or an evening stroll.
Walk 1: For waterside views
Head to Black Park, an open space with a rich film history used as a filming location for films such as Harry Potter, James Bond, and Star Wars. This dog-friendly park is comprised of over 500 acres of heathland and woodland, with 10 miles of paths, perfect for wildlife spotting.
Walk 2: The under 1-miler
Uxbridge Station – St Margaret’s Church – Fray’s River – Rockingham Recreation Ground
For a historical stroll, begin at Uxbridge Station. Enter Windsor Street, the oldest part of Uxbridge, passing St Margaret’s Church and the war memorial, commemorating those lost from Uxbridge during both World Wars. Cross the man-made Fray’s River which runs the mills at Little Britain, West Drayton, and head on for a walk around Rockingham Recreation Ground.
Walk 3: Parks Galore
Uxbridge High Street – Grand Union Canal – Rockingham Recreation Ground – Fassnidge Park
This walk crosses two parks, including the 4-acre Fassnidge Park with mature trees and a local café (The Rusty Bicycle). You will also pass two pubs, The Crown and Treaty and The Dolphin, and walk part of the Grand Union Canal.
Begin and end this walk on Uxbridge High Street. Live the other side of town? No worries! This circular route can be joined at any point.
Walk 5: The Works
Uxbridge Station – St Margaret’s Church – Fray’s River – Rockingham Recreation – Ground Grand Union Canal – River Colne
For a full tour of Uxbridge, take this long circular route. Walk down the historic Windsor Street, Fray’s River and the Grand Union Canal as well as the River Colne. Pass The Swan and Bottle pub as well as walking through Rockingham Recreation Ground.
Walk 6: Colne Valley Regional Park
